Sheikh Imam Cultural Club is delighted to announce a planned collaboration with Echoes of Resistance around one of their shared central commitments: bringing Sheikh Imam's music to live audiences. The partnership will bring together Echoes of Resistance's experience in curating and presenting the work of Sheikh Imam and Ahmed Fouad Negm within rich historical and cultural context, and the Club's mission of keeping this repertoire alive, performed, and accessible to new audiences. The collaboration will focus on the co-production of live concerts and public performances, creating spaces where Sheikh Imam's songs, and the world they carry, can be heard, felt, and shared across communities. This partnership reflects a shared conviction: that Sheikh Imam's music, as an enduringly vital and culturally resonant legacy, belongs not only in the archive, but on the stage, and in the voices of new generations.
Echoes of Resistance is a London-based cultural project dedicated to reviving and exploring voices of resistance from Egypt and the wider Arab world through music, poetry, film, storytelling, and conversation. The project seeks to create spaces where historical memory, artistic expression, and contemporary audiences meet, bringing overlooked stories and influential cultural figures back into collective conversation.
A central focus of Echoes of Resistance has been the work of Egyptian poet Ahmed Fouad Negm and composer-singer Sheikh Imam, whose collaborations became among the most powerful expressions of dissent and social commentary in modern Egyptian history. Through live performances, historical storytelling, and contextual discussions, Echoes of Resistance explores the legacy of Imam and Negm’s work and its continued relevance across generations.
The project’s first edition, Icons of Dissent: Imam & Negm, was held at Palestine House in London and featured a live performance celebrating their songs alongside storytelling about their lives, artistic partnership, and cultural impact. Following its success, a second edition is being presented at Pelican House in July 2026.
